Around the farm in October

The bluebirds have left for their warmer winter homes.  The Canada geese are on their way south, too.  Jams have been made.  The vegetable garden harvest is complete.  Tomatoes have been roasted and frozen, beans have been dried and shelled, squash has been processed, potatoes, carrots and parsnips dug and all of the “green manure” has been chopped.  The hens are having a great time pecking in this once forbidden area.  Annual flowering plants have been euthanized in a series of killing frosts.  ‘Tis autumn!
